Before its establishment, it was part of the Steel Export Subcommittee of the Taiwan Machine Industry Association. It was officially founded in 1963 and named the "Taiwan Steel Industry Association."

Purpose: The steel industry is a fundamental industry. The association aims to promote the unity and development of the steel industry, assist the government in economic construction, help secure foreign exchange for the country, and coordinate industry relations to enhance common interests.
